Initial Ideas
As this is a new project for me as a solo artist, the first few weeks have very much been experimental. Up until this point, my music style has been very acoustic singer songwriter based, however, my aim is to steer away from that as I don't feel any passion when creating that sort of music anymore. The main genres of music that I listen to are Chillhop and jazz and I think this has heavily influenced what direction I want to take my music. At least 80% of the music that i listen to is instrumentals and this has made me appreciate the value of strong guitar riffs that can hold a melody. My aim is to be able to create music that will be a hybrid of both jazz and Chillhop, but with the addition of vocals. However, i want the main melodies to come through the instrumentation as that is what i listen to and love.

The first big change I have made in order to change my sound is switching to electric guitar. This opens so many doors to creative potential as it allows me to conjour sounds that i wouldn't usually think of when playing an acoustic guitar. Over the first couple of weeks i have had to adapt the way i play the guitar; before when on acoustic i was very percussive and used the instrument as a drum as well. This doesn't work with an electric as it ends up sounding muted and dull. However, i have instantly noticed the benefits of playing the electric and already much prefer it. I am able to play solo's with more ease and create beautiful jazzy sounds which is exactly what i intended.

Another big factor which will play a huge part in making my sound evolve is the production behind the tracks. I intend to produce all of my tracks by myself as I want to be able to have full control over my sound. This being said I am still fairly new to production as i only started learning how to in the first year of uni. This, i believe, will be my biggest challenge because even if my ideas and playing are up to standard, if it has not been produced well it will never sound good. Hence I aim to spend hours on end practicing and honing my skills as a producer. I will watch YouTube videos whenever I come to a problem that I need to overcome. Furthermore I am living with 2 producers in my house this year who are both incredibly talented and experienced at doing this. I have been watching them produce their own music to pick up new techniques and understand how to edit things in a particular way.
As this is my own project and I want to improve my skills when making the music, I will be doing all of the producing and playing.
